A short biography of Perhkarh Thawng

My life began on May 24, 1950, in Longthangtlang, and I was raised in Hnaring. My path in agriculture started with studies at the Agriculture School in May Myoh from 1970 to 1972. Following graduation, I dedicated 22 years to government service at the Agriculture Office, from 1972 to 1994.

A new chapter began in 1995 when I ventured to Singapore. This period, however, took an unexpected turn: after a year, I was arrested and endured four months in prison. Following three beatings, I found myself back in Burma, before making my way to Malaysia in 1996.

It was in Malaysia that I became deeply involved in community and faith, helping to establish the Malaysia Chin Christian Fellowship (CCF). I served first as an auditor, then as Vice Chairman. My passion for writing found an outlet as the editor of CCF’s monthly Chokhlei magazine, and I independently published Seihnam Cazual every week.

In 2003, I arrived in Norway. Although I had been a member of the AG church in Laitlang, I strongly believed that the Laimi (Chin) people’s Christian identity should be known to Norwegian Christians, particularly through the Baptist Church. I also championed the need for the Norwegian Chin Christian Fellowship (NCCF), envisioning a stronger, unified Chin community here in Norway. To preserve our language and culture for the next generation, we formed a Senri group, publishing Senri Magazine annually for five years to teach Laiholh and Laica to our children.

Currently, I live in Egersund, and writing remains an active part of my life. I regularly share my thoughts on Facebook and contribute to all magazines published by our people.
