Myanmar Junta’s Repression Now Crosses Borders – New Report Highlights Urgent Concerns

The Myanmar military junta’s brutal repression is no longer confined within the country’s borders. A new report, “Impunity across borders: Junta’s TNR stalks Burmese communities abroad”, documents how the junta is targeting Burmese human rights defenders, activists, and civilians across neighbouring countries through Transnational Repression (TNR).

The report exposes tactics such as passport cancellations, digital harassment, forced deportations, abductions, and cooperation with authorities in Thailand, Malaysia, Bangladesh, and India — leaving Burmese communities abroad vulnerable and unsafe.

At a time when over 1.3 million people have fled Myanmar seeking protection, this report underscores the urgent need for regional and international action to halt these abuses and ensure proper protection for those in exile.
